Hot Chocolate Party

Last week the students earned their 28th buckeye.  Just as a reminder, we earn buckeyes for being asset builders, leaders, active listeners, and for following directions.  When we earn 28 buckeyes the students get to choose how to celebrate their accomplishment.  The first time we has a book character costume party, the second time we had a music and dance party and this time the students chose a Hot Chocolate Party.  I thought it would be fun for the students to try some different flavors of hot chocolate, so I brought in peppermint, Hersey kisses, and marshmallow.

The first hot chocolate we tried was peppermint.  We added two peppermints to the hot chocolate powder and then added the warm water so it would dissolve easier.

 We added warm water...

and began to stir, and finally we tasted the peppermint hot chocolate.
Next, we added a Hersey chocolate kiss.
The warm water melted the kiss!  We tasted the chocolate chocolate (Hersey Kiss) hot chocolate.

Lastly we tried hot chocolate with marshmallows.
One friend brought chocolate cookies to dip in our hot chocolate. YUM!
When we finished our hot chocolate we graphed our favorite flavor.

Peppermint hot chocolate had 9, Hersey Kiss (chocolate chocolate) had 6, and Marshmallow had 10.

Stay tuned to learn all about our Jan Brett author study in our upcoming blog post.  If you haven't read any of her stories, stop by the West Carrollton library and check out a couple.  She is an amazing author/illustrator of a lot of fabulous books.  You can also find some of her books on youtube or you can visit her fabulous website at http://www.janbrett.com/index.html.  I'm sure your child will share his/her favorite with you when you ask.

Have a great week.
