Self-Portraits- Part 1

This week we read the book "It's Okay to Be Different" by Todd Parr.  If you get a chance to check it out at our local library please do!  We know that we are all different and the things that make us different are what makes us special.  Now that we all know and understand that we are all different we began working on self portraits.

As we began this process, we took a look at each and noticed that we all different head shapes.  Some of our heads are shaped as circles, squares, ovals and some are somewhere in between.

We then took a look at our eyes, ears, lips, and noses.  All while remembering that what makes us different is what makes up special!  Once I modeled how some of these features can be drawn I introduced mirrors.  Students were able to look into a mirror to see what shape their head is before drawing.

We did the same to look at our eyes, noses, lips, eyebrows, ears, hair and so on.

Ms. Oxendine our student teacher working with Maryam.

We only used pencil to sketch ourselves because next week we will watercolor paint our self portraits.  I will be sure to share the final product here on our blog!

We look forward our first 5 day week!
(Except Tuesday which is QPT day and we dismiss at 12:00)
