Preparations- Polar Animal Open House

This week we had a long list of "Thing's to Do."  Together as a class, we made a list and had fun checking things off our list once they were completed.
One of the things that needed to be checked off our list was for the students to finish the cover to their modeled Eric Carle book.  Their polar animal inspired Eric Carle book was completed but we needed to complete our cover.  Last week we studied Eric Carle's illustration/painting techniques.  Just like Eric Carle, we painted tissue paper with watercolor paints.
This week after the paper dried, they cut out pieces of the painted to make the polar animal for our covers.
You will see more of their final covers in our Polar Region Open House/Presentations blog post.

A couple weeks ago, student sculpted their polar animal in Mrs. Pinto's classroom.  Students used their "scientific eye" illustrations to help sculpt their animals.
Mrs. Pinto fired them in the kiln, and this week students painted their animals (another task to check off our "to do" list.

Below you will see the students painting their sculptures.
 Penguins
 Lynxes
Narwhals
Leopard Seals
Students also continued creating habitat's for their polar animal.
Spraying a "glacier" with blue watercolor paint.
Adding their animal sculpture to their habitats.
Students also continued to work on their presentation projects.  Penguin and leopard seal groups made a big book, narwhal group wanted to make a big poster, and lynxes wrote a cheer.
Leopard Seal Big Book
 Narwhal Poster
Penguins Big Book

Lynxes cheer
The students have put a lot of thought, and hard work into their projects for this study.  Take a look at our open house/presentation published post to see all their completed projects.
Have a great week!
